Postseason run ends for WolfPack men’s soccer with quarter final elimination
CALGARY — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team has now wrapped up the 2019 post season run, after falling 2-1 to the Mount Royal University Cougars yesterday (Oct. 26).
The Cougars were the Prairie Division’s number one seed heading into the quarterfinal match, and were unbeaten on home turf in 2019.
TRU’s Daniel Sagno had the lone goal for the WolfPack, assisted by Marco Favaro and Justin Donaldson. Keeper Jackson Gardner made four saves and had six shots on goal. Mount Royal had 15 shots in the match compared to only four for Thompson Rivers.
“Tough loss and disappointing way to end the season,” said TRU Head Coach John Antulov afterwards, “But very proud of the group being able to make the playoffs three years in a row. That is great for our program. We came up a little short today and were not at our best. Good learning experience for us going forward. Really optimistic about the future and the group of players coming back and the new players coming into the program. We will just continue to keep the program at the level where it is at and take it a little further.”
