Tiny House Warriors say RCMP acted improperly in arresting Trans Mountain protesters

BLUE RIVER, B.C. — The Tiny House Warriors (THW) maintain RCMP acted improperly in arresting a pair of Trans Mountain pipeline demonstrators near Valemount Saturday (Oct. 19).

In a news release, the group says Kanahus Manuel and Isha Jules were arrested near their Moonbeam camp after the pair confronted workers preparing to complete repairs on the Yellowhead Highway.

Manuel took a video from the back of the police vehicle, saying the arresting officer had broken her wrist.

THW say Manuel and Jules were taken from the arrest site to the Clearwater RCMP detachment, and call their “transport without access to legal counsel” an “egregious Charter violation.”

The group also calls it “very irregular” that Manuel and Jules were held over the weekend until a bail hearing Monday (Oct. 21), rather than released on a promise to appear with the consent of Crown counsel.

RCMP issued a news release Monday (Oct. 21), detailing the arrest and noting Manuel was taken to hospital but no injury was discovered.

Mounties noted “all aspects of the arrests were captured on video by police and will be included in the materials provided to the courts.”
