Arrests follow Tiny House Warrior confrontations over Trans Mountain pipeline

CLEARWATER, B.C. — RCMP are telling Trans Mountain demonstrators they have the right to peaceful demonstration, but contractors have a right to safety and security as well.

The statement comes as two Tiny House Warriors were arrested over the weekend and charged with mischief after a confrontation with road maintenance workers near Valemount.

According to an RCMP news release, Amanda Soper (aka Kanahus Manuel) and Isha Jules were arrested Saturday (Oct. 19) near the entrance to the Tiny House Warriors’ Moonbeam camp.

The arrests came after maintenance crew members told police they “had been disrupted and were being intimidated.”

RCMP say Manuel was uncooperative during the arrest, and later complained of a wrist injury, though RCMP say a visit to hospital after she was in custody resulted in “no noted injuries.”

In a video posted to social media Monday after a judge released the pair on conditions, Manuel says she suffered a broken wrist in the arrest.

Their next court appearance is set for Nov. 4.

The arrest comes after another confrontation Sept. 30.

Clearwater RCMP say a security employee at the Trans Mountain pumping station at Blue River reported two female demonstrators had confronted them in an attempt to intimidate.

Videos posted to Manuel’s social media showed parts of the confrontation.

RCMP allege a security padlock from the site was stolen. One of the two demonstrators has been charged with mischief and theft, while RCMP say charges against the other woman involved are pending.

The Tiny House Warriors are building structures along the proposed Trans Mountain expansion right-of-way in an attempt to obstruct construction and protect Indigenous rights.

RCMP say they are “working hard with all sides” to ensure the rights of both demonstrators and contractors are protected.
