KAMLOOPS — The executive director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Kamloops branch has been placed on paid leave while an investigation gets underway.

In an email statement to CFJC Today, CMHA BC Division says it is responding to “a number of operational challenges” at the Kamloops Branch.

The statement doesn’t detail what the challenges are.

“We are a proud organization that has delivered crucial mental health services, supports, education and advocacy to Canadians since 1917 — including the Kamloops community since 1992 — and we know we can simply do better,” the statement reads.

CMHA BC says it has moved quickly to respond to a number of concerns while simultaneously continuing to deliver services to clients.

In early September, CMHA BC launched a formal external investigation to assess any wrongdoing.

Executive Director of the branch, Christa Mullaly, has been suspended with pay while the investigation takes place.

CMHA BC says it has assumed day-to-day management of the Kamloops branch, has ensured completion of “critical financial and administrative functions,” increased management and frontline staffing levels, ensured uninterrupted services, worked with local community partners, met regularly with funders to manage contracts and operational agreements, and provided weekly on-site executive presence to support the branch’s management team.

“Our priorities continue to be the safety and wellbeing of staff and the clients who use CMHA services in Kamloops. “
