NETFLIX SUED BY PANAMA PAPERS LAW FIRM: The two partners behind the now-defunct Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca & Co. have filed a libel and trademark infringement suit against Netflix over Steven Soderbergh‘s The Laundromat, a film based on the Panama Papers, one of the biggest data leaks in history. (In 2015, a whistleblower leaked 11.5 million docs from the law firm to the press, with incriminating information regarding the tax activities of the rich and famous). Deadline reports that the complaint was made to the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. According to the filed document, the firm is claiming the film “defames and portrays the Plaintiffs as ruthless uncaring lawyers who are involved in money laundering, tax evasion, bribery and/or other criminal conduct.” The Laundromat is set to drop Friday, October 18^th.

POLICE KILL HOMICIDE SUSPECT AT RON ELY’S HOME: Deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a homicide suspect at Ron Ely‘s home Tuesday night. When police arrived on the scene, they found an elderly woman stabbed to death at the Tarzan star’s home. Police reportedly found the suspect hiding in the home, and after he threatened police with a weapon, police fatally shot him. Ely was not injured.

RYAN REYNOLDS AND JOHN KRASINSKI TEAM ON IMAGINARY FRIENDS: Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski are teaming up for Imaginary Friends, a fantastical comedy that is in the process of being picked up by Paramount, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount reportedly beat out Lionsgate and Sony, among others. Krasinski will direct, produce and star. Reynolds will co-star. The film is being described as a Dr. Doolittle-style story of a man who talks to people’s imaginary friends after others have forgotten or discarded. When those friends become evil, it’s up to Reynolds to save the world from harm.

MRS. DOUBTFIRE MUSICAL SETS DATE FOR BROADWAY: Mrs. Doubtfire is set to begin previews on Broadway on March 9^th, 2020, with Beetlejuice‘s Rob McClure in the title role. Jerry Zaks is directing the play, based on the 1993 Robin Williams hit film of the same name.
