KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops hosted its sixth annual Project Connect event this afternoon — as part of Homelessness Action Week.

The event brings in various social service providers to meet and speak with people in the city who may be in need or struggling.

“I think the biggest things that could come from this is that somebody who is experiencing challenges happens to find the service that helps them out from it and maybe helps them overcome an issue that they’re having,” says City Project Manager for housing and homelessness, Ty Helgason.

With a barbecue, flu shot clinic, pop up thrift store, and many booths to explore, Project Connect can give the city’s less fortunate an opportunity to improve their situation.

“The service providers actually enjoy the opportunity to connect with each other and discover the areas for collaboration between them, but also we get a lot of positive feedback from the guests that we get — just that we provided them with a bright day,” says Helgason.
