KAMLOOPS — A professional adventure who has travelled hundreds of thousand kilometres around the world is speaking at Thompson Rivers University tonight (Oct. 16).

Greg Hill is speaking about his adventures, but also about his decision to switch to an electric vehicle and how he’s worked it into his lifestyle.

Hill is one of the country’s most well-known ski mountaineers. The Revelstoke native has been taking on the world’s highest peaks for the last two decades. But in 2017, Hill made a conscious decision to switch his truck — and other motorized vehicles — for electric. It’s a decision he’s never regretted.

“I’ve been an adventurer for over 20 years snow, and over all those years I flew around the world. I was in Nepal, I was in Norway, and the whole time I was enjoying nature and really appreciating it, but on the other hand I was also destroying it. That hypocrisy got to me after a while,” said Hill. “For the last two years, I’ve climbed over 100 summits now electrically and just proved that adventure and normal life is possible.”

In parternship with BC Hydro, Hill is speaking in the mountain room at TRU from 6-8 p.m. tonight (Oct. 16), and admission is free. Hill will be laying out the pros and cons of using an electric vehicle, but ultimately showing it can work for anyone, despite some fears about charging time and reliability.

“I want to show how the infrastructure’s changed, how it’s easier for people now to adapt to them,” he said. “A couple years ago, it was harder, but it’s easier and easier. A lot of people are worried about the charging time [45 minutes], but I’ve turned that into Greg time. I’ve found restaurants, second-hand book stores, and sometimes I just take a nap. It’s a time where you can just relax.”
