FEDERAL ELECTION 2019

Roughly 4.7 million Canadians voted in advance polls: Elections Canada

GATINEAU, Q.C. — Millions of Canadians took advantage of the opportunity to vote in advance polls for the 2019 federal election.

Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault says roughly 4.7 million electors voted between Oct. 11 and Oct. 14 across the country.

That’s a 29 per cent increase from the 3,657,415 electors who voted in advance in the 2015 election.

The numbers are estimates at this point and not all polls may have reported yet.

“More and more, Canadians are taking advantage of early voting opportunities to cast their ballots,” says
Perrault. “Having extended voting hours at advance polls gave Canadians more flexibility to use this option. I want to thank returning officers for their careful planning and the thousands of election workers who made that possible.”

A breakdown by province, territory and electoral district is being calculated and will be available soon.
