KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were on scene at a vehicle-versus-Hydro pole incident for several hours this morning (Oct. 13).

Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says around 1 am this morning, crews responded to Fortune Drive and Oak Road for a motor vehicle incident.

“When they arrived, they found a vehicle that had sheared off a Hydro pole, with no occupant or driver on scene.”

While the driver had apparently left the area, KFR was on scene until about 4 am, and provided on scene safety until BC Hydro crews arrived to fix and secure the pole.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Victor Steinhammer says the vehicle involved was actually stolen, and police managed to quickly locate the driver who had fled.

“She will be before the courts this morning, and everybody wound up safe and sound,” explains Steinhammer, who also says incidents with stolen vehicles are not entirely uncommon, “It regularly happens. They’ll take a car or just steal a vehicle to commit other crimes.”
