SUNSET VALLEY FARMS

Family fun and heart-pounding terror await at Kamloops pumpkin patch and corn maze

KAMLOOPS — Every fall, Sunset Valley Farms on Tranquille Road opens up to the public. During the day, it’s the perfect spot to take your family. You can head out to their pumpkin patch to take some photos and pick up gourds of all sizes for Halloween.

They also have a pair of corn mazes you can explore with your family. But when the sun goes down at the farm, you might want to keep your kids at home, because the corn maze quickly turns into a Field of Screams after dark.

Whether you’re searching for the perfect pumpkin or the perfect pumpkin patch picture, Sunset Valley Farms has been the place to come and spend a fall day for almost a decade.

“We’ve been doing the pumpkin patch for eight years,” farm owner Raj Uppal told CFJC Today. “People really enjoy coming out and getting good shots with the pumpkin patch and the pumpkins.”

For the past six years, Raj has also been planting vast cornfields. However, that corn isn’t destined for a cook pot. They’ve been cutting mazes into the corn; during the day, it’s a nice walk, but at night, the corn maze is transformed with one goal in mind:

“Scaring the hell out of people,” Uppal said. “People like getting scared, so every year, the word gets out that we put on a pretty good show.”

This year, they’ve taken that show to the next level. The farm has teamed up with Ominiss Productions, who have been producing Field of Screams events at O’Keefe Ranch in Vernon for several years.

Each Field of Screams production takes on a new theme. For the Sunset Valley Farms corn maze, they settled on a creepy carnival vibe.

“What people can expect are their worst nightmares,” Field of Screams Creative Director Matt Brown explained. “If you’re allergic to clowns, don’t come.”

Creepy clowns aside, the families at the farm during the daytime all had very positive reviews of the pumpkin patch and the corn mazes.

So if you’re looking for a great family day out at the pumpkin patch or an evening of heart-pounding terror in a darkened corn maze surrounded by scary clowns, Sunset Valley Farms is the place to be this fall.
