KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada is forecasting some mild, autumn weather for the rest of the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Meteorologist Johnson Zhon says the Kamloops area will see some precipitation today (Oct. 13), heading into the evening.

“Today is kind of the tail end of the week’s system, which is going to bring some scattered showers, with a 40 per cent chance of showers tonight.” He explains, “Tomorrow for Thanksgiving Day, it’s probably going to be cloudy to begin with in the morning, but should see some sun in the afternoon.”

For travellers headed out on the highways on Monday after Thanksgiving festivities, Zhon says the higher elevation roads like the Coquihalla and Okanagan Connector should be in driveable condition.

“Monday the conditions are looking not too bad. It’s going to be mostly cloudy on Monday, and then the freezing levels are going to be right over the mountain passes,” Zhon explains, “So if there’s any snow over the passes accumulated today, and I don’t expect too much, it should be melted by Monday.”

For the rest of the week, Zhon says the Kamloops area won’t be experiencing unseasonably cold temperatures.

“Kamloops is actually protected by the coastal mountains, which means you’re going to have mostly cloudy weather and normal temperatures. Basically lows looking at the 5-6 degree mark in the mornings, with the highs of 14-15 degrees in the afternoon,” he explains, “There’s a system actually moving across up in BC later Tuesday into Wednesday, so you might get another chance of showers maybe Tuesday night into Wednesday night, with some wind.”
