West Victoria Street improvements reach a major milestone with paving work

KAMLOOPS — Traffic on West Victoria was extra congested Friday. That’s thanks to paving work, which took place on three of the four available lanes on that stretch throughout the day.

According to the City of Kamloops Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow, Extreme Excavating put down several layers of asphalt throughout the day.

“It’ll be a little quicker, it’ll be a little less disruptive, and we’ll have a dedicated lane going in each direction,” Farrow told CFJC Today.

He also wanted to remind motorists using West Victoria Street that despite the smooth, new surface, it’s essential to consider the safety of those construction crews still working on the project.

“Now that everything is asphalt again and nice and smooth, keep that traffic down to 30 km/h,” Farrow reminded drivers. “It’s still an active construction zone; there’s still an awful lot of construction needing to be done throughout the corridor.”

With the improvement project reaching another milestone and considering the traffic issue the city has experienced over the past few days, Farrow also wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to commuters in Kamloops for their patience and cooperation over the past days, weeks and months.

“It’s been a couple of challenging days with some accidents and issues related to this project as well as outside this project,” Farrow said.

“Thank you to the community. Just be aware and respect the work that is going on in this roadway. It’s an exciting time to be clearing up this work, and we look forward in coming weeks to hit further milestones as we move into the winter.”
