KAMLOOPS — One person was taken to hospital after a car and school bus crashed in downtown Kamloops this afternoon.

The driver of a Mustang had to be extricated from his vehicle.

Kamloops Fire Rescue got the call just before 3:00 p.m. for a crash in the area of Battle Street and Ninth Avenue.

Platoon Capt. Mike Haines said crews arrived to find a collision between the vehicles.

“So we responded with a rescue truck and an engine, and BC Ambulance arrived on scene ahead of us as well as RCMP,” Haines says. “When we got here, the gentleman had injuries in the driver’s seat of the Mustang, we were able to extricate him by removing the door, and he’s just been transported to hospital.”

Haines says no children were on the bus at the time of the crash. There’s no confirmed cause of the collision at this point, but the weather downtown doesn’t seem to be a factor.

“It has been a busy day, we still have a unit tied up on a semi rollover out in Valleyview,” Haines said. “Everybody thought winter was coming, and a nice day like this, this is what we have happen on a nice day like today so drive carefully.”
