KAMLOOPS — Are you looking for some part-time work on October 21st? Elections Canada is hiring, looking to fill positions throughout the riding on election day.

Geoff Collier, Returning Officer for Elections Canada, says they’re hoping to fill around 200 positions for the October 21 election date.

“We need 900 people; we’ve hired 700 so far, but we still need 200 more, and time’s getting short,” Collier explains. “These are the people who are the face of the election, to the voters. They’re the folks actually working the polling stations, behind the desk, taking the votes and helping people exercise their right to vote.”

Collier says some positions need to be filled throughout the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding.

Paid training will take place before election day, and Collier says workers can expect to make around $250 to $350, depending on their role.

“To come and get a job, either come down here to [the Elections Canada office at] Sahali Mall and just walk int our front door anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, or noon and 4:00 p.m. on weekends. We’re open seven days a week,” Collier says.

He also noted there are other ways to get in touch with them if you’re interested in working.

“You can call us at our phone number, 1-866-545-0619. Or you can go online to elections.ca/jobs… and you’ll get a call the next day because we pull those off every night and call people the next morning.”
