RICHARD JEWELL TRAILER DROPS: Clint Eastwood‘s Richard Jewell dropped a sneak peek Thursday. The true-life story of a man whose life was ruined when law enforcement got its story wrong and blamed an innocent man for a crime he didn’t commit. The film is based on Marie Brenner’s Vanity Fair article “American Nightmare – The Ballad of Richard Jewell,” stars Sam Rockwell as Watson Bryant and Kathy Bates as Richard’s mom, Bobi; Jon Hamm as the lead FBI investigator; Olivia Wilde as Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs. Richard Jewell drops December 13th.
JULIE DELPY TALKS GENDER PAY GAP: Julie Delpy is the latest star to come forward and draw attention to the gender pay gap in Hollywood. In an interview with Variety, she said: “As a woman, you know you’re paid less than a man as a writer or as a director or as an actress.” Delpy said she was paid “maybe a tenth” of what her co-star Ethan Hawke was paid for Before Sunrise, directed by Richard Linklater. For the next film, Before Sunset, she received “half” what he did, despite writing the film with Linklater and Hawke. She added that she refused to do the third film, Before Midnight, unless they were paid the same.
JAMAL KHASHOGGI STORY HEADED FOR THE SMALL SCREEN: Patrick Melrose producer Two Cities Television and Spotlight producer Topic Studios have partnered to bring a drama on the life and death of Jamal Khashoggi to the small screen. The companies have optioned Jonathan Rugman‘s The Killing in the Consulate: Investigating the Life and Death of Jamal Khashoggi, which is set to drop this month by Simon & Schuster.
NETFLIX FACING TAX EVASION: Netlix is being investigated in Italy for tax evasion, according to reports. Although the mega-streamer doesn’t have a physical presence in Italy, prosecutors argue that the streamer’s infrastructure qualifies it as a local business that should pay taxes.
