KAMLOOPS — It’s just past the halfway point of the election campaign, and the first signs of vandalism are being seen in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding.

Local NDP candidate Cynthia Egli’s sign was tagged at the intersection of Eighth Street and Westsyde Road. The graffiti that states ‘All Your $$’ covers Egli’s name. Upon learning about the graffiti, Egli, who’s only a week and a half into her candidacy, is disappointed in the vandalism.

“I really felt sorry for the person who did that,” she said. “In the sense of whatever they’re going through. I find it hateful to do that. I’m not sure what would take someone to actually to take energy to do that. Really in the end, if they don’t believe in the NDP policy, then you don’t have to vote for us.”

A short distance away, on Westsyde Road, is an Iain Currie Green Party sign that’s been tagged with the letters ‘PPC.’

“It’s silly. It doesn’t really have any impact,” noted Currie. “It costs our volunteers a little bit of time and some effort, and it just brings down the level of dialogue here. We want to go in the opposite direction.”

The vandalism comes in the wake of signs in the Ottawa area two weeks ago that threatened to shoot Liberal candidates.
