KAMLOOPS — All of the local candidates in the federal election are confirmed in Thursday evening’s debate centered around the environment.

Cheryl Kabloona, chair of the Kamloops Chapter of the B.C. Sustainable Energy Association (BCSEA) says the event will help give voters clarity on where local candidates stand on topics pertaining to climate change and the environment.

The Kamloops debate is one of 100 non-partisan debates taking place across Canada on this topic.

“We’ll be using some questions that are being asked of all the candidates in Canada,” Kabloona said. “That’s part of what will happen. Also, we have some questions that the organizing group has identified, and there will be 40 minutes for audience questions, also.”

The debate will take place at TRU’s House of Learning at 7:00 p.m.

It is being hosted by the local chapter of the BCSEA and Transition Kamloops.

The environment has become a major issue in this election.

“Canadians are feeling the effects of climate change, so everybody cares about that,” Kabloona said. “And, there are other environmental issues that are important too, so we’re really pleased that environment and climate have risen to some of the top issues that voters are concerned with this time.”

The debate is free to attend.

If you can’t make it there, it will be streamed live on Facebook on the Kamloops Debate on Environment event page.
