New mural unveiled at North Kamloops park
KAMLOOPS — A brand new piece of community art was officially unveiled on Sunday morning, at an event held by the McDonald Park Neighbourhood Association.
The mural wraps around the old Pool changeroom building at the park and was painted by local artist Kelly Wright. Sarah Johnstone, the spokesperson for the McDonald Park Neighbourhood Association, says many residents and businesses within the local area stepped up to help ensure that the mural project was completely funded.
“We had a budget of about $20,000 that we’ve had to fundraise, and I’m super happy to announce that we have met our goal. We’ve actually come in under budget,” Johnstone explained, as she thanked the sponsors of the project.
Wright was commissioned by the neighbourhood association to help beautify the park. He says this project is by far the biggest mural he’s ever undertaken. Wright says the plan is for him to finish up this mural then move onto the washrooms at the other side of the park.
