KAMLOOPS — Jessie Simpson had been looking forward to meeting his idol, rapper Snak The Ripper, for weeks. He was invited to be backstage at his concert in Kamloops on Friday night.
However, Simpson was physically unable to attend, recovering from surgery at Royal Inland Hospital.
Jessie’s mom, Susan Simpson, took his place at the concert to meet Snak. When she said Jessie couldn’t make it, the rapper from the Lower Mainland didn’t hesitate to volunteer to meet him at the hospital on Saturday.
“Snak came to see Jessie. He was very sick when he showed up. [Snak] looked at him, he was so kind. He made Jessie smile,” said Susan of the interaction. “Snak rapped with Jessie, he fist-pumped and made Jessie laugh… Jessie told him he made him happier than ‘chocolate cake, chicken strips and winning a dirt bike race.'”
Snak has donated $500 to the family’s GoFundMe, and during his concert in Kamloops collected $100 worth of donations from concert-goers. Snak also promised Jessie to come back and see him in about a month when he’s back in Kamloops.
Jessie was severely injured when he was beaten with a baseball bat in June 2016 in Brocklehurst. He spent the first 10 months after the attack in a coma and has had multiple surgeries, most recently one to remove a kidney stone last week.
