TNRD Wins UBCM Award
VANCOUVER — The Union of British Columbia Municipalities has presented its 2019 Community Excellence Awards at the UBCM annual convention in Vancouver.
The awards showcase municipalities and regional districts that have implemented projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government in BC. The awards are designed to profile promising practices and to create successful pathways and incentives for others to follow. UBCM has offered the Community Excellence Awards since 2004.
Among the award winners was the Thompson Nicola Regional District, which won the award for Excellence in Service Delivery for their programme “A New Road Travelled-Mobile Library Service Provides Advanced Voting Opportunities for Rural Communities.
The Convention will be officially opened this morning by Kamloops Councillor Arjun Singh, who is the UBCM President. Among the guest speakers today will be Green Party leader Andrew Weaver. Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson will speak tomorrow and Premier John Horgan will speak on Friday to wrap up this year’s UBCM.
