Body identified and two charged with first-degree murder in Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. – RCMP and the North District Major Crime Unit have confirmed the identity of the body found in the Fraser River on Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

Police have identified the body as Branton Regner. Regner was reported missing following an incident on the Rudy Johnson Bridge on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

Jayson Gilbert and Michael Drynock have been charged with the first-degree murder of Branton Regner.

Both men also face one charge each of attempted murder and kidnapping.

β€œThe rapid progress of the arrests and multiple charges involving these two accused are a direct result of the collaborative investigative effort between Williams Lake RCMP and the North District Major Crime. These investigations are ongoing and continue to be a priority within our community,” says Williams Lake RCMP Insp. Jeff Pelley.

The investigation into the murder of Branton Regner, as well as the murder of Richard Duncan on Aug. 6, 2019, is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Williams Lake RCMP at (250) 392-6211.
