KAMLOOPS — Another Terry Fox Run in Kamloops is complete with more money raised for cancer research.

The run took place at a rainy Riverside Park on Sunday. The turnout, however, was still strong. The event raised close to $40,000 with the proceeds going directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.

“A lot of people ask me what my goals are. I don’t really have any goals, and I would love for the Terry Fox Runs not to solely be focused on the money,” said Kamloops run organizer Andrea McCurrach. “It’s such a great community event that is so full of courage and hope and people coming together to celebrate.”

McCurrach says the Terry Fox Foundation will use the money towards its $150 million donation made earlier this year.

“It’ll be matched by the federal government [$150 million over five years] to create the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, which is a collaboration of cancer doctors and cancer clinics across Canada,” noted McCurrach. “They can share information and clinical trials and research and outcomes.
