Senior football programs at Valleyview and Westsyde fold for this season

KAMLOOPS — Two longtime high shool football programs in Kamloops won’t be fielding teams this fall. Westsyde and Valleyview won’t have senior teams.

Jeff Sidow is the athletic director at Westsyde says “we won’t have a senior program at Westsyde this season because we did’nt have enough enrollment for the squad — we’re short of players.”

Sidow says Westsyde will continue to operate a junior program.

Chad MacIntosh, the athletic director at Valleyview, says the Vikings have folded for the same reason.

“I think it’s a combination of many different things.” says MacIntosh. “The kids are involved in so many things. Their committments are stretched from diffferent sports — a lot of kids working. In football there is a big committment to playing.”

.McIntosh says he hopes there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that they will still have their equipment room and have things available for kids if they want to do it. (play football)

South Kam is the only remaining senior program and will play an exhibition game at two this afternoon at Hillside against Vanderhoof.
