KAMLOOPS — Starting Friday (Sept. 13), the Attack-X Tabletop Gaming Expo has taken over the Campus Activity Centre at Thompson Rivers University.

Organizer Nathan Bosa says more than 300 players have gathered in Kamloops for the seventh annual expo, featuring a variety of gaming tournaments and vendors.

“Eighty per cent (are from) out of town. There’s guys from the [Unied States], Toronto, Vancouver, Prince George,” he explains. “The local scene is really good at supporting us, which is nice, but it brings in a lot of people from everywhere, yeah.”

With Kamloops hosting one of the larger expos in Western Canada, Bosa says the community and competition has grown each year.

“Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m, the entire Campus Activity Centre will be full,” he says. “Some people sign up at the door so there should be a lot of people here.”

Featured tournaments this year are Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warmachine & Hordes, Magic The Gathering, Star Wars X-Wing, Flames Of War, Guild Ball, Malifaux, and Pokemon.

“[Each is] a war game system that’s done with tape measures and dice, and you build and create your own miniatures, and play on terrain, with a rule set for each system,” Bosa explains. “There’s a lot of pre-planning on what to build for each event.”

And if you’re new to gaming, Bosa says there are plenty of people around to give tips and tutorials, and spectators are always welcome.
