PRINCE GEORGE – BC Hydro says approximately 100,000 customers lost power Wednesday night in an outage that stretched from Fort St John in the east to Smithers in the west.

The outage occurred around 9:00pm.

BC Hydro says a transmission failure resulting from a lightning strike is to blame for the situation.

In a twitter message, BC Hydro says crews are beginning efforts to restore power to the region.  It suggests power will be restored in Prince George by 12:30am.
