WESTWOLD, B.C. — It’s been an up and down week for School District 73, but some good news is coming out of the community of Westwold.

School District 73 assistant superintendent for elementary schools, Rob Schoen, says at last night’s school board meeting, it was revealed six students would be attending the school.

But today (Sept. 10), Schoen says he’s gotten confirmation that nine students are expected to attend Westwold Elementary this year.

Three more children will be moving into the neighbourhood soon, Schoen says, so they will attend the school once they’re settled in.

“So right now, Westwold, we are pleased to announce, has an expected population of at least nine students,” Schoen says. “If we can get nine students there this year that means Westwold is heading in the right direction.

“The good news though, in a week of trying times, is knowing that our beloved Westwold is alive and doing well and we celebrate all of the families who have committed to go back to school for this year.”

Westwold Elementary was closed last year after no students showed up for the first day of classes. The board and the district fought for it to remain open until they could confirm enrollment numbers for this year.
