SCOTCH CREEK, B.C. — RCMP say a tense situation in the North Shuswap Saturday (Sept. 7) stemmed from a shots fired complaint.

According to a news release from Chase RCMP, it began at 2:20 p.m. with a confrontation at a Hilliam Road property in Scotch Creek.

Cpl. Scott Linklater says a group went to the address to confront its occupants about stolen property.

The group heard a loud noise sounding like a gunshot and an occupant yelled at them to leave. They then saw a person leave the home and walk toward them carrying a shotgun.

The group retreated and the man went back into the home.

RCMP rushed to the scene and went into the house, but the suspect was not there and officers did not find any firearms. However, Linklater says police are familiar with this address.

Linklater reminds people not to bypass law enforcement options when it comes to dealing with potential criminal issues. He says that activity puts your safety at risk.

Anyone with information on the shots fired incident is asked to contact Chase RCMP at (250) 679-3221 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
