KAMLOOPS — A seventh federal election candidate has stepped forward in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo.

Kira Cheeseborough is letting her name stand under the banner of the Animal Protection Party of Canada (APPC).

A news release from the APPC describes Cheeseborough as a social work student and youth program co-ordinator.

The APPC was founded in 2006 and, though it focuses on animal welfare, says it is “the only political party in Canada seeking to represent the interests of the general human population and the environment” through what it calls “compassionate politics.”

Cheeseborough is the party’s 12th declared candidate for the October 21 vote.

There are six other candidates already planning to run in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo: incumbent Conservative Cathy McLeod, Liberal Terry Lake, Dock Currie of the NDP, Iain Currie for the Green Party, Ken Finalyson of the People’s Party and Communist Peter Kerek.
