Kamloops edition of Parkinson SuperWalk raises over $25,000

KAMLOOPS — On Saturday, around 200 people turned out to Riverside Park in support of Parkinson’s Disease for the annual Parkinson SuperWalk.

The walk takes place in more than 20 communities across the province. It raises vital funds that provide support and education for families who are battling a Parkinson’s diagnosis, as well as helps fund some research efforts. This year was Andie Smith’s first year as the organizer for the local SuperWalk. The TRU student says she’s learned a lot about the disease thanks to her involvement in organizing.

“I actually didn’t know anyone personally prior to volunteering [who had] Parkinson’s,” Smith told CFJC Today. “I didn’t really know that much about the disease in general, to be honest. But I’ve learned a lot and met some really fantastic people who are currently dealing with the disease, or a spouse of someone who is dealing with it. It’s been really eye-opening and really inspiring.”
