KAMLOOPS — Following another perfect preseason weekend in Langley, pushing their exhibition record to 5-0, there is excitement building within the Blazers locker room.

It’s a team that feels they’re building solid momentum heading towards the regular season, which starts on Sept. 20 against Spokane.

“I think something that’s been really good for us is we’ve always started on time each game,” said goaltender Dylan Garand. “We’ve always come ready to play, like [Head Coach] Shaun [Clouston] has been mentioning to us. We’re on time as soon as the puck drops. I think we’re all just competing, too. There’s obviously still a couple guy still trying to take some spots, but everyone’s competing and everyone’s giving it their all.”

The coaches and players feel their game has been sharp with less sloppy play that you would expect in the preseason.

“I think overall, we’ve played a good team game, and Shaun’s even mentioned it looks like mid-November, early-December hockey. I think that’s been good,” said Garand.

Kamloops started with a 7-1 win over Prince George on Friday, then took care of Victoria 6-4 on Saturday. The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with another dominant effort in a 5-1 win over the Giants.

Logan Stankoven had two goals and an assist in the victory over Vancouver. Stankoven’s line with Orrin Centazzo and Zane Franklin combined for eight points. Despite a great preseason so far, Stankoven is trying to temper the excitement.

“I think it’s been really positive so far this season. You also have to take into account that it is preseason still. Teams don’t have their full line-ups in, but it’s been good so far, getting some chemistry going with different players, learning how different teams play, if they’re physical or skilled,” noted Stankoven.

The Blazers close out the exhibition season with a home-and-home series with Kelowna starting Friday at the Sandman Centre.
