George Hilliard Elementary will be the new home for Parkcrest Elementary students
KAMLOOPS — School District 73 officials will hold a news conference this morning at 9:00 AM to outline plans to deal with students of Parkcrest Elementary School. The school burned down last Thursday night.
Board officials have been working almost round the clock to determine how to deal with the 350-plus students.
The news conference this morning (Monday) is expected to confirm that the Parkcrest students will spend at least the rest of this school year and probably the 2020-2021 year as well at George Hilliard on Holt Street. It was shut down as an elementary school several years ago. It has been housing the Twin Rivers Education Centre and the Four Directions School, both of which will be moved.
Twin Rivers students are expected to be accommodated at Norkam, while the Four Directions students will move to the vacated Happyvale Elementary, further south on Holt. That facility currently houses the Big Little Science Centre, which will move to an undetermined location. At Norkam, several portables will be brought in to accommodate the TREC students.
