KAMLOOPS — A man who was arrested in Kamloops yesterday after firing paint balls at vehicles and threatening people is expected in court today (Sept. 8).

In a release, Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat. Van Laer says yesterday police responded to the Costco area, where a suspect had reportedly fired paintballs at moving vehicles. He was seen on his way out to Valleyview, but police were unable to find him when they arrived.

Later, RCMP were called about a similar suspect and vehicle, this time threatening pedestrians around the Sandman Centre.

Kamloops RCMP, and CP Police officers were able to catch up with the suspect at the 800 block of Lorne Street, where he was taken into custody at gun point by police.

“So of course at first, we were not exactly sure what we were dealing with,” says Van Laer, “But once we were able to determine it was a paintball gun- it remains dangerous- but it gave us some relief that it was not an actual firearm.”

The male did not resist arrest and was taken to the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. Van Laer says he’s now expected before the courts today.

“This was certainly a serious series of events that our members were able to successfully stopped. This individual was really acting dangerously, and we are thankful he didn’t cause any accidents or injuries to anyone prior to his arrest” says Van Laer.

The investigation is ongoing, and the man does not appear to be from the Kamloops area. No further information is being released by police at this time until this case is brought forward to Crown counsel for charge assessment.

Anyone who may have seen these incidents, or had any interaction with this man is encouraged to contact the Kamloops RCMP non emergency line at 250-828-3000. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can also report to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
