KAMLOOPS — After a fire largely destroyed Parkcrest Elementary Thursday evening, the charred remains of the school were still smoldering yesterday morning. (https://cfjctoday.com/2019/09/06/parkcrest-elementary-whats-next-for-staff-and-students/)

However, Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says given the progress made on suppression efforts, Parkcrest Elementary is no longer considered an active fire scene.

“It’s going to be hot for awhile, no doubt.” Cooper says, “It’s going to be warm for awhile, until we can get that heavy machinery in there and start tearing it apart.”

Inspectors with KFR’s Investigation Unit have started an investigation into the cause of the fire, and the School District is working on a solution to get displaced teachers and students back to class.
