Salmon swimming through Fraser River rockslide area using restored passageways
LILLOOET — Progress is being made on getting salmon through the section of the Fraser River blocked by a rock slide earlier this summer.
In an update yesterday (Aug. 31), the Big Bar Landslide Information Team says for the first time, sockeye salmon have been able to swim past the landslide using restored passageways.
A fish ladder was installed as part of the restored channel, and rock manipulation also improved the passageway.
The Information Team says so far, 43,636 Sockeye salmon have been transported by helicopter, along with 8,263 Chinook, 2 Coho, and 41 Pink.
