KAMLOOPS — The leader of the Kamloops-based BC Lottery Corporation is going on leave as he battles cancer.

In a news release, BCLC says President and CEO Jim Lightbody will be “taking a medical leave while he undergoes treatment and recovery.”

Board Chair Peter Kappel says board member Greg Moore will assume Lightbody’s duties when Lightbody goes on medical leave beginning in mid-September. Kappel says BCLC anticipates Lightbody’s leave may extend into early 2020.

Lightbody has spent 18 years with BCLC, the past five as President and CEO.

“Jim Lightbody’s number one priority must be his treatment and recovery,” said Kappel in the release. “BCLC’s Board of Directors, executive team and staff express their gratitude and support to Jim for his contributions and leadership of the organization and we extend our concern during this challenging time.”

Moore is a former mayor of Port Coquitlam and has been on the BCLC board since November, 2018. Kappel says Moore will remain based in the Lower Mainland, splitting his time between BCLC’s Kamloops and Vancouver offices.
