UPDATE: Wildfire crews responding to blaze west of Savona

SAVONA B.C. — UPDATE: August 27, 5:00 AM

B.C. Wildfire crews responded yesterday to a fire in the Juniper Beach Park area.

Last night, fire officials estimated the size of the blaze at 41 hectares.

At this point the cause of the fire is unknown. The fire is not classed as an interface fire at this time.

It is located on the south side of the Thompson near Semlin, across the river from Juniper Beach park, about 16 kilometers east of Cache Creek.

Air tankers dropped several loads on the blaze last night (Monday) before it got dark, and about two dozen wildfire personnel responded.

The fire is highly visible from the highway and surrounding areas.

The current size estimate is 0.01 hectares.

B.C. Wildfire has not responded to a request for comment at this time, but crews were scene in the area.
