Kamloops Fire Rescue knocks down grass fire in Westsyde area
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews took down a small fire last night in the hills behind Westsyde.
Platoon Captain Will Harlock says around 7:30 last night (Aug. 23), crews arrived at the McQueen Creek – Long Lake Forest Service Road for what sounded like just a single tree on fire.
“Our crews responded and found that it was actually about a 15 metre square area that was on fire,” He explains, “They were on scene for a couple of hours because the wind actually picked it up and got it going pretty good. The only thing that was really on fire was some grasses, and a couple of trees, but nothing further than that got engulfed.”
There was no lightning in the area, so Harlock says the fire could very well be human caused. He cautions people having campfires to be extra careful and to keep an eye on the weather.
