New Salvation Army officers settle in to life in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — There are some new faces at the Salvation Army.

Captains Cory and Kelly Fifield have moved into the roles that Major Paul and Captain Lisa Trickett held for six years.

The Fifields are not completely new to B.C., having met and married in Vancouver.

Since then, they have been positioned with the Salvation Army in High River, Alberta and most recently, Kentville, Nova Scotia.

As they ease into their new positions in Kamloops, the Fifields are excited to learn about the needs of the community.

“So far it’s been going well, we’re still under some boxes, still trying to get settled and just find our way around, but it’s been good,” said Capt. Kelly Fifield. “Kamloops is beautiful, we love just driving around and being able to see what’s here, visiting some of the parks, trying to get a feel for the community.”

The Fifields were moved to Kamloops following the departure of Major Paul and Captain Lisa Trickett.

The Tricketts moved to Penticton and left some information to help out the new officers.

“The Tricketts did leave us with this great brief and so now we’ve got the information we need, but of course, seeing it in reality is something very different,” Capt. Cory Fifield said. “So, we’re looking forward to the coming year because every season brings with it new challenges and opportunities. So, we look forward to that piece.”

The Fifields have also been speaking with staff to gain insights into the B.C. Division of the Salvation Army.

“We have some amazing staff that have just really kept things going in between with the changeover and that’s key, I find, in order for us to be able to keep things going from what’s already started and be able to carry on well is having those people around us to be able to support us and say, ‘I got this, this is my job, this is what I’m doing,'” Capt. Kelly Fifield said, “where we can come and walk alongside them and help them.”

The new captains have received a warm welcome from their congregation and are looking to spread that same kind of love to the rest of the community.

“That’s really our goal, is to listen, and to be present, and through that discover Kamloops and discover what the needs are and what can we do?” Capt. Cory Fifield said. “What do we bring to the table that might help the Salvation Army continue to serve Kamloops?”
