WEST KELOWNA — The BC Coroners Service and RCMP say they are looking into the tragic death of a teenager in Okanagan Lake yesterday.

In a release, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of Kelowna RCMP says just before 1 a.m on August 17, emergency crews attended Okanagan Lake’s Gellatly Bay for a reported drowning.

A 15-year-old boy had reportedly jumped into the water from the Ferry Wharf structure, and did not re-surface.

First responders found the teen and pulled him from the water, starting CPR until the victim was rushed to hospital by the Advanced Life Support crew of BC Emergency Health Services. “

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the 15-year-old boy could not be resuscitated and passed away in hospital,” says O’Donaghey, “RCMP Victim Services are providing support to the witnesses and the victim’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the boy’s loved ones during this difficult time.”

In maintaining the privacy of the deceased, no further information will be released by RCMP or the BC Coroners Service.
