Dry August trend expected to hold up in Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS — It should be business as usual for Kamloops on the summer weather front this week.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron says conditions will be steady from today (Aug. 18) into the following weekend.

“Clear tonight with a low of 14, and sunny tomorrow with a high of 29,” He says, “Similar scenario for Tuesday- maybe a little bit more cloud, but a high of 31.”

Wednesday has a slight chance of showers, but Bergeron says even if some rain were to arrive, it would just be the tail end of a system entering the coast.

In terms of precipitation, Bergeron says August has been somewhat dry.

“Traces (of rain) on a few days. There was only one day, it was on the 11th, where you had 3.2mm, and the following day was 0.8mm,” He says, “So it’s definitely not a significant amount of rain so far, and you do expect the Southern Interior to be dry. But even that is drier than normal at least for the first half of August.”

Right now, most of the province has lower fire danger ratings, however Bergeron notes the Interior should still be cautious.

“In fact, the South Thompson, Okanagan, Similkameen is where we do see some moderate to high risk. Not as high as it’s been in the previous two summers with the extreme widespread fires, but we are still seeing some risk.”
