Kamloops MP says Prime Minister has broken trust of Canadians following release of ethics commissioner’s report

KAMLOOPS — Local Conservative MP Cathy McLeod says the Prime Minister has betrayed the trust of Canadians.

McLeod, commenting on the new report by ethics commissioner Mario Dion, says Canadians will judge the actions of Justin Trudeau during the election in October.

Dion concluded Trudeau violated the Conflict of Interest Act by pressuring former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Rayboud to stop the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin.

“Canadians care about ethics in their prime ministers, in their government,” McLeod said. “They do care about our justice system and the fact that it should be free of interference. I mean, that’s something that we stand for in a democratic country is our justice system is free from political interference.”

McLeod says Dion’s report validates what Jody Wilson-Raybould had been saying in regards to the SNC-Lavalin affair.

However, she says there are still gaps in the story.

“The prime minister’s office determined that they were not going to allow the people that were under cabinet confidence to speak about this issue,” McLeod said. “So, we have things we don’t know still, but mostly very concerning and the second time this prime minister’s been found guilty.”

CFJC Today reached out to Liberal candidate Terry Lake, who said he could not comment at this time.
