WILLIAMS LAKE — Williams Lake RCMP and the North District Major Crime Unit are working together to investigate multiple, possibly linked incidents.

In a release, RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says Friday evening (Aug. 9), police were investigating an incident at the Rudy Johnson bridge. During this investigation, a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle from an August 6 homicide was seen along Highway 97.

After a police chase, the vehicle was stopped near Airport Road, and three people were taken into custody. Two of those people have now been released, pending an investigation into their attempt to evade officers.

The other, Jayson Gilbert, remains in custody, and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder for the incident at the Rudy Johnson bridge.

Saunderson says the situation is also a missing person investigation, and RCMP are trying to find Branton Regner. Anyone with information on Regner’s whereabouts is asked to call the Williams Lake detachment at 250-392-6211.

So far, no charges have been laid related to the August 6 homicide, however early evidence suggests these two investigations may be linked.

“These remain active investigations for the Williams Lake RCMP and North District Major Crime Unit,” says Inspector Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Williams Lake RCMP. “It is important that any potential witnesses, or people that may have information about these incidents, contact the police.”
