KAMLOOPS — Bryce Herman is a familiar face in the community as president of the North Shore Business improvement Association, board member of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and a member of Kamloops Rotary Daybreak.

But, with a recent change in his employment status at Chances Casino, he is unsure of how many community organization he can remain a part of.

“I’ve had to step back from a number of those things because of my role with Chances and with Gateway so I’m really re-evaluating generally all of the community work that I’ve been doing,” Herman said.

The NSBIA has announced Herman is no longer eligible to continue in the role as president since he is no longer employed by Chances Casino.

“Under our bylaws we specifically have a clause which identifies that any acting board member must be representing a north shore business,” said Executive Director Jeremy Heighton. “Because of the change in Bryce’s position he’s had to step aside as president of the organization.”

Herman says his lawyer has advised him not to comment on the change to his employment status.

He does say he is sad to no longer be involved with the NSBIA.

“It’s disappointing to me that I won’t be a part of a lot of those great initiatives that we worked aggressively on to get going, but you know it’s the same thing with the Chamber,” Herman said. “It’s one of those things where there’s some good people still there and certainly I’m not the linchpin in all of it, but certainly was a contributor and it saddens me that I can’t be a part of that any further at this point.”

Herman has had significant involvement in events like Ribfest and the Y Dream Home Lottery.

“Currently, I expect that I’ll be doing a number of those things,” he said, “but which ones and which ones were directly related to the role that I had I need to really evaluate.”

The NSBIA is working on plans to replace Herman.

“Right now, our Vice-President Andrew Watson from Supplement King will be stepping in to take over as president,” Heighton said. “We have a special board meeting being called for the end of August, at that time we will sit down with the board and assess the leadership and the succession planning and ensure there’s a plan to move us forward into 2020.”

Heighton says Herman’s absence from the NSBIA will be felt by the organization.
