WILLIAMS LAKE – With warm dry weather in the forecast, the province is taking steps to reduce the risk of wildfires in the Cariboo. As of noon Monday July 29th, all open fires, larger than campfires, will be banned.

The ban on all category 2 fires includes fireworks, tiki torches, waste fires and stubble burns. The ban does not include campfires that are a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller.

Campers will be allowed to use cooking stoves that are fueled by gas, propane or briquettes.

Larger category 3 fires were banned in April.
