REVELSTOKE — Traffic along the Trans Canada Highway west of Revelstoke has been brought to a standstill after a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a semi truck.

RCMP Cst. Mike Halskov says the crash occurred around 2:50 p.m this afternoon (July 24), about 30km west of the community.

“It involved a semi truck and a motorcycle,” he explains, “Emergency crews are currently on scene investigating this crash.”

Halskov says the highway will be closed for several hours while an investigation is conducted.

At this time, RCMP don’t have a firm estimated time of re-opening, but Halskov says updates can be found on Drive BC’s website (accessed here).

According to the latest update from Drive BC, the highway is expected to re-open around 5:30 p.m.

“Summer time is always busy, which means more traffic on the highways,” Halskov says.

RCMP want to remind the public of some basic safety go-to’s. “We just ask people to plan ahead, give themselves extra time to get to where they’re going, and drive defensively, obey speed limits, wear your seat belt, drive sober, drive distraction-free, and make it to your destination in one piece.”
