Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kamloops area, warning in place for Cariboo

KAMLOOPS — When thunder roars, go indoors.

That’s the message from Environment Canada as a severe thunderstorm watch is issued for the North Thompson, and continued for the Cariboo.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” the watch states. “Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.”

For Kamloops, more precipitation is expected to head our way as temperatures cool down this week.

Meantime, a severe thunderstorm warning was put into effect mid-Wednesday afternoon for the Cariboo region, including the cities of Quesnel and Williams Lake.

Environment Canada says a cluster of thunderstorms was located just east of Highway 97 near Williams Lake, and tracking eastward.
