KAMLOOPS — Police have confirmed that a fatal fire at a mobile home park in Westsyde earlier this week is not the work of arson.

The call came in early Monday morning for a fire at a trailer park on Grant Road in Westsyde.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP say police and fire investigators finished their scene examination yesterday (July 16).

“Based on the evidence uncovered, the fire is not believed to be arson,” said Shelkie. “The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating this death, with support from Kamloops RCMP.”

Shelkie says it’s possible the fire was still caused by human activity that was not intentional.

“That will be part of our investigation to determine what caused the fire – whether it was accidental human activity. But yes, that’s still to be determined,” she said.

Shelkie says the finding was not based on information provided by two boys who were questioned by investigators.

“This conclusion was strictly based on our investigation at the fire scene,” said Shelkie.

A GoFundMe page has identified the victim of the fire as Fiona France.
