Dump truck driver dies in crash east of Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Highway 1 was closed Wednesday near Canyon Hot Springs after a fatal crash.

RCMP say in a news release that at roughly 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (July 17), emergency responders attended the crash about 33 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

Police say a commercial dump truck lost control and collided with several other vehicles. The driver of the dump truck was ejected and died. There are no other reported fatalities, and injuries to other vehicle occupants are not clear at this time.

The investigation is in its early stages, police say, and DriveBC reports the highway is closed in both directions with an estimated time of re-opening of 5:00 p.m.

Information from the scene indicates it was raining heavily at the time of the crash.

Police, the BC Coroners Service and Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement officers are investigating.
