TRU hosting public consultations around university growth

KAMLOOPS — Those interested in the future of Thompson Rivers University can have their ideas heard tomorrow night at a community input session.

The event is part of a series of feedback sessions hosted through EnVision TRU, a project aimed at gathering thoughts from the public about university growth.

The consultations are led by TRU President Brett Fairbairn, who expects learning style growth will be a major topic of discussion.

“I know one thing that’s been important here and in other places is practical learning for students. So involvement in the community and businesses, and gaining that experience as part of their university studies,” he explains. “I expect we might hear about things like that.”

Fairbairn says TRU representatives have a slate of ideas the public can comment on, and are open to hearing what residents think the university needs.

“All kinds of stakeholders are important to a university like TRU, and I think the community is especially important to a university like ours,” he says. “I know we have lots of friends, supporters, interested people in the community, critics too, I’d love to hear from all of them.”

The meetings will be held tomorrow from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from the Centre for Seniors Information in Brocklehurst, and Wednesday, July 17 at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from Desert Gardens.
