Crash closes Coquihalla near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP, and the coroners service are investigating a fatal collision last night which had shut down the Coquihalla highway.

Sgt. Thomas Dimopoulos says around 4 p.m yesterday, emergency responders were called to the Highway 1 and 5 interchange, where a white Toyota Prius had collided head-on with a grey Toyota Sienna.

The lone driver of the Toyota Prius was pronounced deceased on scene and the lone driver of the Toyota Sienna was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment.

The highway has since reopened to traffic.

UPDATE: Drive BC says the highway is closed to northbound traffic, but southbound traffic is getting through.

Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Thomas Dimopoulos says police are investigating the accident which occurred at the Highway 1 and Highway 5 interchange just north of the weigh scales.

Both lanes coming into the city are stopped for an undetermined period of time.

EARLIER: A serious crash has closed the Coquihalla Highway near Kamloops.

The crash happened at about 2:45 p.m. just south of the city.

There is no word on injuries, though it’s believed to be a very serious crash.
